Pirate’s Presidential Campaign In-Class Debate

Q: In 2001, our National Defense Budget was $280 billion dollars. After the attacks on September 11th, we have seen our defense budget continue to grow. Our National Defense budget is currently over $700 billion dollars. Do you plan to increase, decrease or maintain this budget? Make sure to explain your reasoning
We plan to increase our defense budget. Throughout the debate we stressed the topic of keeping our main portion of our military home. Defending america from inside threats is more important to our team then other countries problems. With an increase in terrorist activity in america it is crucial to stop it before it spreads further.
Q: What programs (you must identify SPECIFIC programs) do you intend to cut from our National Budget to decrease our deficit? Explain.
We plan to eliminate crop insurance program which is $87.1 billion. Reduce Medicare payment rates in high spending areas which is $47.6 billion.
Foreign Policy
Q. Many of the campaign teams have addressed that they would intervene in foreign affairs if the United States was threatened. What is your definition of a threat and how would you respond accordingly?
A definition of a threat to us is any hostile action towards our country or our citizens. There can be many different ways to handle and respond to a threat. Threats can handled by negotiations or use of armed forces if necessary.
Q. On December 23, 2018, President Trump tweeted that “ISIS has been largely defeated” and that he would be removing troops from Syria and Afghanistan. What are your thoughts about President Trump’s decision? Would you support or oppose this decision? Explain why.
I truly support this decision because I feel we don’t need to risk anymore American lives and we have the technology to protect us on our home turf.
Q. For many Americans, foreign affairs are not a topic they are knowledgeable. Do you believe that awareness of foreign policy issues is important for Americans? Why or why not? How do you plan to increase American engagement in foreign policy issues? Explain.
Yes i do think it is important. Many Americans are not aware of what is really going on in Afghanistan. This makes it feel like us as a nation has turned its shoulders on the brave people that fight for this counrty. Increasing awareness will hopefully bring change to this war.
Q: President Trump is frequently accused of not acting “Presidential.” Define what it means to be President of the United States? How do you believe the President should conduct himself? Explain with specific examples.
Education
Q. New York state recently passed the Excelsior Scholarship. Under this program 940,000 families in New York making under $125,000 a year will have the opportunity for free college tuition at a state university. Does your campaign team support the Excelsior Scholarship? Explain why or why not.
Yes we support this we feel that every student deserves a college education.
Q. American public schools are in many ways more economically and racially divided than ever before with radically different performance outcomes. How do we ensure that all of America’s students have access to quality education. Be specific.
Q: How does your campaign team plan to make America’s schools safer and more secure? Be specific with your plan.

Q. Throughout this project you have participated in a variety of activities from research to presentations. You have improved your knowledge of content and have improved a variety of skills that you will need for your future. What is the thing that you have learned the most from this project?
It helped me get a well rounded knowledge of what is going on in America. Before this project i was pretty clueless to what was going on.
